Video of Blown Perfect Game and Yankee Reactions

Last night Tiger’s pitcher Armando Galarraga held a perfect game with one out to go in the ninth inning. He educed a ground ball that was thrown by Tiger’s first baseman Miguel Cabrera to Galarraga, covering at first base in time to get the out. Unfortunately, Umpire Jim Joyce blew the call.

When I first saw that, my immediate reaction wasn’t anger toward the umpire, although I can’t blame those who are angry, but sorrow for Galarraga.
Throwing a perfect game ensures that you are part of baseball lore forever, and he will be denied that.
Instead we will just talk about that guy who almost threw a perfect game.

Phil Hughes : “That’s tough. I feel bad for Galarraga. It will be interesting to see what happens from here.”
Joe Girardi on a possible call reversal : “If they change it, it doesn’t affect the game. It’s a very unusual circumstance. I don’t want to open a can of worms.”
Curtis Granderson on changing the rules because of this : “I don’t think so. One of the things a lot of people forget is players make a lot of human mistakes and umpires are also human. I think we’re pretty good with everything being the way it is right now.”
