The A-Rod Headlines Continue: When Is Enough Really Enough?

Alex Rodriguez never seems to be out of the headlines. Whether he is dodging reporters while hanging with mysterious blondes in Toronto, dating superstar actresses, or confessing to the use of performance enhancers, there always seems to be some sort of drama attached to this guy. For those who lack publicity, there is always opportunity here.

A-Rod is a very good baseball player, one of the best of all-time, but he will more or less be remembered for the circus that continually follows him around. It has now been reported that MLB is investigating a report that he was involved in a high-stakes poker game with highly publicized Hollywood stars Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire.

Allegedly, tempers flared and a fight broke out, but at that point A-Rod paid his dues and left the game. The problem with all of this is, is that MLB head honcho Bud Selig has previously warned him about these types of situations.

Gambling is a part of sports and will continue to be throughout the end of time, and any athlete’s participation in this type of scenario can put them in a compromising position, making Selig’s warning more even more plausible.

Selig should follow through on the suspension if A-Rod knowingly went against his wishes. If he took performance enhancers and lied about it, do what you have to do. If he did in fact tip pitches, by all means punish him.

There are always all of these reports portraying him as the worst teammate and downright despicable human being, but no one follows through on anything. If he is in the wrong, the punishment should fit the crime. Until then, enjoy his abilities as one of the best and just leave it alone.
