Yankees catcher Jorge Posada, who was hit in the knee with a pitch in the second inning yesterday, is not expected to go on the disabled list and would actually be the emergency backup if needed today, as the Yankees are not calling anyone up from the minors for insurance, according to Chad Jennings of the Journal News.

“No question there’s improvement since last night,” Posada said. “Still some swelling we need to get out, but if need be, in a pinch, I can play tonight.”

“He’s just black and blue,” manager Joe Girardi said. “Fortunately, it didn’t hit him on the bone. I would think (hitting) would probably be easier (than catching). Running is probably not going to feel great, but that was never one of his strong suits.”

The ‘Cisco Kid, Francisco Cervelli, gets the start tonight in his place. Make sure you read our story about him here. Like I said at the top, if Cervelli goes down today for some reason, Posada would be the replacement. Girardi said that the replacement for the replacement in a double emergency would be Ramiro Pena, but don’t count on it getting that bad.
