The Yankees drafted right-handed pitcher Alan Horne in the 11th round of the 2005 amateur draft and by the 2008 season he was ranked among the top Yankee prospects poised to make the major leagues.

Since then he’s dealt with injury after injury, missing most of the 2008 and 2009 seasons. Now 27-years-old, 2010 was expected to be an important season, but instead Horne will miss the entire season because he needs surgery to repair his torn rotator cuff, according to Patrick Teale of Pinstripes Plus .

This is really bad news for the hard-luck pitcher.

At this point you have to wonder if he’s finished within the Yankees organization. He’s already recovering from shoulder surgery, and another one makes it even less likely that he can ever become 100 percent healthy and able to pitch again.

This is not an elbow problem he’s dealing with; shoulder issues take much longer to rehab and returns are much less certain.

We’ll continue to keep an eye on Horne, but it’s unlikely that we’ll hear from him for a long time, if we ever do again.
