Hello Bronx Baseball Daily readers. I hope you had a good Memorial Day weekend. The Yankees did as they beat the Indians three times in four games. Andy Pettitte and Alex Rodriguez lead them to an 11-2 victory yesterday.

Here are some notes:

Pettitte earned his 199th win as a Yankee. Only Whitey Ford (236) and Red Ruffing (231) had more.

Derek Jeter left yesterday’s game with tightness in his hamstring in the seventh inning. He was hit with a pitch there earlier in the game. Expect him to be day-to-day.

Jorge Posada
is getting close to returning. He was hitting and doing sprints as of yesterday .

Joel Sherman of the NY Post
believes the Yankees will go after LHP Cliff Lee , just not until he is a free agent this offseason.

A quick note on Ford and Ruffing’s victory totals. The Yankees actively worked to keep their pitchers from winning too many games back in the day. This was partially to save their aces for just the biggest games and it was partially to keep salaries down. Sometime soon I’ll write more on this subject.
