The Yankees got a much needed off-day yesterday that, more than everything else, gave some of their walking wounded a chance to heal.

We already heard this morning that Curtis Granderson is on track to come back this Friday. Now we have a couple more updates:

Javier Vazquez

Vazquez was in the middle of a dominant outing last time against the Mets until he injured his hand while bunting in the top of the seventh.

Vazquez was confident that he would make his next start. He threw a side session this afternoon, yet they didn’t know for sure if he’ll be ready.  But, everything went well this afternoon and it does indeed appear that Vazquez will be set to make his next start on Thursday.

“It felt normal,” Vazquez said. “I didn’t feel it pitching so I’m ready to go Thursday.”

Marcus Thames

Thames hurt his ankle when he stepped on his bat the other day and hasn’t been in the starting lineup since.

He has been available as a pinch hitter, but manager Joe Girardi announced today that he is ready to go today with no restrictions. However, he is not in today’s starting lineup.

Alfredo Aceves

Here is a bit of bad news . Aceves had a side session this afternoon that was supposed to be the first step toward his eventual return. About six or seven pitches into that session, Aceves cut it short when he felt discomfort in his back again. Aceves will undergo more tests before he is cleared to throw again.
