Currently, 43 percent of Bronx Baseball Daily readers would like to see the Yankees acquire bullpen help over another bat or rotation help.

This led me to look into which relievers would be available at the trade deadline that the Yankees might target.

Here is a list of the 10 best options that may be available:

  1. Kerry Wood – He’s currently on the 15-day DL with blisters on his fingers, but he should have no problem clearing waivers with his $10.5 million salary, so he will be eligible to be traded until August.
  2. Octavio Dotel – He has a 4.75 ERA in 37 appearances. He’s a free agent after the season, but the Pirates do have a $4.5 million option (It becomes a mutual option if he’s traded). He may be more expensive than he’s worth.
  3. Joakim Soria – 26 and under team control through 2014, he’s probably the most talented player on this list, so he’ll be the most expensive.
  4. David Aardsma – The Mariners’ closer is having a rough season, but his potential (He had a 172 ERA+ last season) makes him an attractive option. The Yankees may not want to deal with the Mariners after the Cliff Lee debacle, though.
  5. Leo Nunez – He’s 26 and under team control for the next two years, so he may be an expensive piece for the Yankees to land. He’s got skills, though, as his 146 ERA+ will attest to.
  6. Jason Frasor – A 32-year-old righty making $2.65 million this year, his walk year. He’s having a slightly down year, but his 116 ERA+ during his career could make him a serviceable option. He’s a Blue Jay, so trading within their division may be a problem.
  7. Scott Downs – A 34-year-old lefty reliever with a 117 ERA+ over his career. He’s in the final year of a three-year deal. The Yankees may be motivated to acquire a lefty since Damaso Marte landed on the DL. Another Blue Jay.
  8. Aaron Heilman – A 31-year-old righty having a decent season for Arizona. His 102 ERA+ over his career isn’t too impressive, though. He’s an impending free agent.
  9. Kevin Gregg – Another Blue Jays pitcher, this time their closer. He was having an awful start to the season, but has turned it around. He’s 32 years old and has a $4.5 million club option for 2011.
  10. D.J. Carrasco – Another Pirates pitcher. This one is 33 years old and has a career ERA+ of 104. He might only be a good option depending on his price.
