Joba Chamberlain Dislocates Ankle

Joba Chamberlain dislocated his ankle last night, playing on a trampoline with his young son. Sure, that may not sound too bad, until I tell you it was an open dislocation.

If you do not know what that is, then do a Google search. Warning, it is quite disgusting. Essentially, the bone dislocates, and tears through the skin. Not only is it a jarring bone injury, but it is also a pretty bad wound.

According to a report from the New York Daily News, Chamberlain lost a significant amount of blood, to the point where it could have been life-threatening.

I have always been a big supporter of Joba, from his dazzling days when he was untouchable in the bullpen to his stint as a starter, and then back to the pen again. At one point, he was one of the hottest young pitchers in baseball, but it seems like his career may have reached its end, or at least an extensive delay.

Chamberlain was making great strides in his Tommy John surgery, only to have a freak accident derail him for who knows how long.

If you follow Joba on twitter, you can see what a serious and involved father he is, and it’s a shame he hurt himself while enjoying time with his son.

With that being said, someone who relies on their body for their profession has no business on a trampoline, but that’s a whole different story.
