After last night’s game was rained out the Yankees are prepared to play a double-header today in Detroit against the Tigers. The first game starts at 1:05 and features a matchup between RHP’s Javier Vazquez (1-3, 9.78) and Rick Porcello (2-3, 7.50). The second game starts at 7:05 and will feature another set of RHP’s Phil Hughes (4-0, 1.69) and Jeremy Bonderman (1-1, 5.74).

Yesterday we heard that minor league first baseman Juan Miranda was getting called up in place of the injured Alfredo Aceves (bulging disc in his back), but it turns out that is not the case. According to Chad Jennings of the Journal News , the Yankees are calling up outfielder Greg Golson instead. Manager Joe Girardi made it sound like the Yankees would consider a move later on in the week to recall Miranda, but as of right now nothing is official.

“We’ve been short on outfielders,” Joe Girardi said. “And we felt we were covered pitching-wise.”

Also, according to Marc Carig of the Newark Star-Ledger , the Yankees have a mystery pitcher on standby in case they go through too many pitchers in the first game this afternoon. It is probably Jonathan Albaladejo , but that is pure speculation. It can’t be Mark Melancon , who still cannot be called up until 10-days after he was last sent down.
