One would think any sports fan would love the fact that their team was in 1st place. And this applies in one way or another to any competitive sport, team or individual.
The highs and lows go back and forth so much it just can hurt the fan.
I have experienced this and refer to this feeling of “being dumped’ or it is “the honeymoon phase” because it is ultimately is a formed relationship.
