Curtis Granderson Has Come Back Strong

Yankees outfielder Curtis Granderson needed about a month to return after suffering a groin injury on May 1st. That time off seemed to suit Granderson just fine as he doesn’t seem to be experiencing any difficulties at all since returning and has been red hot.

In his last seven games, including one pinch hitting appearance, Granderson has gone 10-for-24 (.417) with 4 doubles, a home run, a .481 OBP, a .708 SLG, and a 1.190 OPS overall.

That is sick and, unfortunately, unsustainable… unless he continues his amazing trend of hitting against lefties, he is 6-for-8 against them lifetime. Now that is an extremely small sample size, but he has started taking batting practice exclusively against Kevin Long now because Long is a lefty. It’s way to early to say anything with authority, but six hits is usually a months worth of hits off of lefties for Granderson so when he does it in a week it gets your attention.

If Granderson can keep doing damage against left handed pitching his overall numbers will see quite a jump. If he could even become league average against lefties he would probably be a .900 OPS guy (now he’s more of a .827 OPS player).

Besides, aren’t we all just happy to see him back so we don’t have to watch Randy Winn or Marcus Thames, or Kevin Russo starting in the outfield everyday?
