According to Chad Jennings of the Scranton Times-Tribune, Ian Kennedy left his last start with numbness in his pitching hand went to New York to see the Yankees team doctor. His next scheduled start was supposed to be Saturday.

Ian-Kennedy“Starting pitcher Ian Kennedy left Monday night’s game in Rochester because of numbness in one of the fingers of his pitching hand. He went to a doctor in Rochester after the game and today he’s in New York seeing a Yankees team doctor. There won’t be much more information available until Kennedy gets back and the Yankees get the results of today’s tests.”

Kennedy has been pretty damn good down in triple-A this season. He’s thrown 22.2 innings in four starts with a 1-0 record and a 1.59 ERA.

This is certainly bad news for the Yankees, but more because it depeletes their depth rather than directly affecting their ballclub. Especially with the way Phil Hughes pitched last night the Yankees weren’t likely to call on Kennedy unless Chien-Ming Wang spends more time on the DL than expected.

Pitcher Jason Johnson also has a small labrum tear and will be out at least a month according to Peter Abraham. With these two injuries and the callup of Hughes, Scranton’s rotation has undergone quite a shakeup. They still have Eric Hacker, Alfredo Aceves, and Kei Igawa in their rotation.
