Nick Johnson left tonight’s game in the fifth innin with soreness in his right wrist. During the postgame show on YES they said that he was headed back to New York for an MRI. Marc Carig reports that the wrist has been bothering Johnson for a few weeks, and a trip to the DL is likely.

Robinson Cano also left tonight’s game after being hit on the knee with a 92 mph fastball by Josh Beckett. He tried to stay in the game and run the bases but took himself out two pitches into the following at-bat. After the game, Joe Girardi told Marc Carig that he’d “be surprised if Robbie played tomorrow.”

Andrew Marchand says that Girardi said Robbie is day-to-day and that the Yankees will call up an infielder to take Johnson’s spot on the roster when he hits the DL.

More info as it comes.
