The Rock Surprises Crowd at WWE Raw, Starts ‘Derek Jeter’ Chant

The Rock swung into WWE Raw on Monday night, helping salvage an otherwise strange and regrettable parade of dinosaur costumes and wine bottles.

Seeing as it was a wrestling exhibition in Brooklyn, The Rock arrived at the Barclays Center and asked fans to indulge him in an homage to retiring New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter. FoxSports.com’s Jimmy Traina uploaded footage of the chant on Instagram.

“Show respect to The Captain and say, ‘Derek Jeter!'” the sometimes professional wrestler yelled.

Fans obliged—because you can never have too much “RE2PECT” at a wrestling match.

The Rock proceeded to confront Rusev and smack him around like a small child. I’m not positive the Bulgarian wrestler grasped what was going on, but he appeared to understand the brief jabroni beating he took in front of the revitalized crowd.

The Captain would have appreciated all of this, of course. If there’s anything the notorious shut-in enjoys, it’s wild public spectacles in which his name is followed by sweaty, simulated violence.

I’m not the biggest professional wrestling fan, but I assure you that I would watch every second of a WWE Raw tag team match in which The Rock and Jeets fight The Undertaker and David Ortiz. Any programming that potentially involves Derek Jeter delivering a piledriver in a Tempur-Pedic banana hammock is must-see television.

Let’s make it happen, Cap’n.
