If you’re a Yankee fan who commutes home by car every night, you probably will appreciate this list. John Sterling, the man of many voices, as we have come to know him, has handed down many amazing nicknames to many amazing players. When he’s not calling the game, he’s spending hours every day, finding out new information to come up with a nickname. With the help of Wikipedia and a rhyme dictionary, Sterling puts together his amazing nicknames, and in the chance that the player hits a home run, he’ll have the chance to say that oldie but goodie. Here, in this list, I talk about the top 5 names that Sterling has ever given. I’ve narrowed it down to the top 5, and these are THE best home run calls/nicknames. His corny, dumb calls make many people laugh and smile, while at the same time making his ego go from bad to worse. Like he cares at all. He’s the guy making all the good money. Over the years, I have seen the good, the bad and the ugly. Actually, in this sense, we want more of the bad and the ugly, because that is basically the dumb and the corny which I am looking for, which brings me to my last point, my grading system. After I list each home run call and description, I will list a score that each call recieved. The scale which it is graded on is the “dumb scale” the stupider and cornier it is, the more points it gets. The more it makes sense, the less points it gets.
I hope you have as much fun reading this as I did writing it, because it brought back a lot of great Sterling memories for me, which I hope it will do for you. You will probably know all of the nicknames listed, but nevertheless, it should still appear funny. Enjoy the list.
