Roger Clemens to Sign with Independent Atlantic League at 50-Years Old

Roger Clemens has been in the news since his exit from professional baseball in 2007 for all of the wrong reasons. Clemens now has taken the headlines again in 2012 as he has worked out for Sugar Land Skeeters of the Independent Atlantic League and will reportedly start on Saturday.

The Skeeters are not affiliated with Major League Baseball but now have a couple of former big name pitchers on their staff, including Clemens and Scott Kazmir.
Insight on Clemens’ workout comes from Javier Bracamonte, the Houston Astros bullpen catcher who is a friend of Clemens and caught his workout for Sugar Land. Berman reported Bracamonte’s comments on Clemens session,
He’s in such great shape it’s ridiculous. He’s the same guy he was before. He is nasty. His split is good. He still has life. He was throwing in the high 80s. He ran three miles, threw a bullpen and threw batting practice. He had a lot of movement on the ball. To me he is still the same.
Clemens was reportedly hitting 87 MPH in the workout on Monday.
Clemens, who has fought tremendously to maintain his reputation through the years, will certainly make headlines after his start this Saturday. Is this an attempt on Clemens’ part to get back into Major League Baseball and if so, would there be any team brave enough to take the gamble with him?
More than likely, it is not. At 50-years-old and approaching five years since his last MLB game, it appears that this might just be a case of Clemens receiving his fix of getting on a mound again in a competitive atmosphere.
