Nick Swisher left Sunday’s game between the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers in the third inning with a tight left hamstring, tweets Daniel Barbarisi.

He will undergo a precautionary MRI to ensure that there is no serious damage.

Swisher struck out swinging in the first inning following his two home-run performance on Saturday, then followed that up by walking in the third inning.

After seeing two pitches to the next batter, Raul Ibanez, and a throw over to first base, Swisher asked to leave the game.

Andruw Jones was called upon to pinch-run.

Losing Swisher for any extended period of time would a huge blow to the Yankee offense, as he is off to an exceptionally hot start.

Entering Sunday’s action, Swisher has 23 RBI. That total is good enough for second in the American League.

He also has six home runs and a very respectable line of .288/.352/.625.

The Yankees’ outfield depth may have just gotten a bit thinner. Brett Gardner is already on the shelf, and they have attempted to replace his production with a platoon of Jones and Ibanez in left.

If Swisher is out for a few days or worse, a few weeks, Eduardo Nunez could likely see time in the outfield.

Here’s to a speedy recovery for the Yankees’ right fielder, as he will be difficult to replace if his tight hamstring sidelines him for a significant amount of time.
