The New York Yankees have been struggling to find a key piece to add to their already monstrous ball club. As of recent, the Yankees have been targeting former Tampa Bay Rays closer Rafael Soriano to be the setup man to closer Mariano Rivera.

Interest has been going back and forth within the past few weeks. There have been reports that the Yankees are not interested in Soriano, but then again SI’s Jon Heyman keeps tweeting that the Yankees are still in the hunt for Soriano.

Soriano had 45 saves with a 1.78 ERA last season. He has been linked to the Yankees, the Texas Rangers and the Chicago White Sox.

If the Yankees do get a hold of him, the combination of Soriano and Rivera could look like the combination of Rivera and John Whetteland back for the 1996 World Series winning New York Yankees.
