A few things of note happened this week. J.R. Murphy got into game action in the GCL. He went 4/11 with a double, a walk, and 2 Ks in 3 games. Ian Kennedy will head to the Arizona Fall League. Brandon Laird and Austin Romine will head to a fall league as well. The rosters come out soon, so I’ll have a full list of Yankee prospects and what league they are in when that information is all available.
Alan Horne also had his best rehab start of the season. He lasted 7 innings, gave up no runs on 5 hits and struck out 7. He also did not walk a single batter.
Russ Ortiz also had the option to opt out of his contract after a few AAA starts if he was not called up. He exercised that right and is no longer with the Yankees.
AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre
Kevin Russo, 2B: 26 AB, 12 H, 2 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 5 BB, 3 K, .462/.548/.731 – has been on an absolute tear over the past month.
Reegie Corona, SS: 20 AB, 7 H, 2 2B, 3 BB, 2 K, .350/.417/.450 – starting to improve in AAA, his wOBA there for the season is still .221, though.
Austin Jackson, OF: 25 AB, 6 H, 4 BB, 8 K, .240/.333/.240 – the walks are nice, but Jackson hasn’t done anything impressive in quite a while. His wOBA for the season is still above average at .349.
Shelley Duncan, OF: 25 AB, 8 H, 5 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 2 BB, 7 K, .320/.379/.720 – continues to kill the ball, 7 of his 8 hits were for extra bases.
Juan Miranda, 1B: 21 AB, 7 H, 1 2B, 1 3B, 2 BB, 6 K, .333/.391/.476
Ivan Nova, SP: 1 GS, 6 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 1 HR, 5 K, 1 BB
Jason Hirsh, SP: 1 GS, 4 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 1 HR, 3 K, 3 BB
Josh Towers, SP: 2 GS, 12 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 10 K, 5 BB
Romulo Sanchez, SP: 1 GS, 4.1 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 6 K, 3 BB – Via Mike Ashmore, Nardi Contreras said he’s been hitting 99 mph.
Anthony Claggett, SP/RP: 1 G, 2.1 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 K, 2 BB
Zachary Kroenke, SP/RP: 2 G, 3 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 2 K, 2 BB – has been due for a lot of regression, based on his FIP.
Mark Melancon, RP: 3 G, 5.2 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 1 HR, 7 K, 2 BB – really needs to get in the majors and stay there.
Edwar Ramirez, RP: 2 G, 3.1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 1 HR, 4 K, 2 BB
Jonathan Albaladejo, RP: 3 G, 3 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 HR, 0 K, 0 BB
Kevin Whelan, RP: 3 G, 2.1 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 4 K, 2 BB
Michael Dunn, RP: 1 G, 1.2 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 1 K, 1 BB
AA Trenton
Austin Krum, OF: 15 AB, 0 H, 1 BB, 5 K, .000/.063/.000
Matthew Cusick, 2B: 14 AB, 2 H, 1 BB, 2 K, .143/.200/.143
Eduardo Nunez, SS: 14 AB, 5 H, 2 2B, 1 BB, 1 K – keeping that average over .300 and putting himself on the map. I’m not really a fan, though.
Zach McAllister, SP: 1 GS, 4.2 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 11 K, 1 BB – only got 3 outs not via the K, ridiculous. I would not mind seeing this McAllister more often.
Ryan Pope, SP: 1 GS, 6 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 7 K, 1 BB – 2 ER in his last 19 IP now.
Jeremy Bleich, SP: 1 GS, 3.2 IP, 8 H, 5 ER, 5 K, 2 BB
Lance Pendleton, SP: 1 GS, 6.1 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 4 K, 1 BB
Humberto Sanchez, RP: 3 G, 4 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 4 K, 0 BB – legitimately back on the prospect map. He has pitched 12.1 straight shutout innings in his past 8 appearances. He walked 3 in one, but hasn’t walked any other batters in that span.
A+ Tampa

Damon Sublett, 2B/CF: 19 AB, 6 H, 2 2B, 1 3B, 7 BB, 5 K, .316/.519/.526 – a lot to like from him this season. I wonder how he has looked in CF.
Brandon Laird, 3B/DH: 24 AB, 8 H, 2 HR, 1 BB, 5 K, .333/.370/.583 – In April, May, and June, he had four total homers. In August, he’s already hit 4.
Austin Romine, C: 21 AB, 4 H, 2 BB, 2 K, .190/.261/.190 – has struggled mightily in August (.505 OPS).
