Slade Heathcott and Caleb Cotham made their respective debuts this week. Heathcott has been playing center field and leading off for the GCL Yankees while Cotham made a start in the GCL and then moved up to Staten Island to make another start.

The good news on Ian Kennedy keeps coming. He said he’s pitching great and, “It doesn’t feel like anything ever happened.” I look forward to tracking him in the Arizona Fall league.

Francisco Cervelli returned from his hand injury and is back in AAA. He went 1-for-9 with a double and a K in his first few games. I expect he’ll be called up on Sept. 1 because of Posada’s hand injury.

Alan Horne moved from the GCL to Charleston and really struggled. He gave up 8 ER in 4.1 innings, struck out only 2, and walked 4.

Dellin Betances underwent Tommy John Surgery just a few days ago. That is bad news for him and the organization. Whenever he’s been healthy, he’s pitched great.

AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre

Kevin Russo, 2B: 24 AB, 8 H, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 BB, 4 K, .333/.360/.500 – The fact that this is his worst week in a while says something.

Reegie Corona, SS: 13 AB, 2 H, 1 2B, 2 BB, 2 K, .154/.267/.231 – Still struggling mightily in AAA, has an OPS of .450 in 126 ABs.

Austin Jackson, OF: 19 AB, 4 H, 1 2B, 0 BB, 5 K, .211/.211/.263 – OPS down to a weak .755, huge slump.

Shelley Duncan, OF: 18 AB, 4 H, 1 2B, 4 BB, 3 K, .222/.391/.278

Juan Miranda, 1B: 11 AB, 6 H, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 K, .545/.545/.909 – He’ll be out of options after this season.

Ivan Nova, SP: 1 GS, 7 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 5 K, 1 BB

Jason Hirsh, SP: 1 GS, 6 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 1 HR, 4 K, 0 BB – I still like this move by Cashman, he could provide real value at some point.

Josh Towers, SP: 1 GS, 6 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 3 K, 3 BB

Romulo Sanchez, SP: 1 GS, 7 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 9 K, 2 BB – By far the best start of his AAA career, but he also started the season as a reliever.

Anthony Claggett, SP/RP: 1 GS, 5 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 1 HR, 3 K, 0 BB – Seems like the Yankees are setting him up to be a long reliever in his big league future.

Zachary Kroenke, SP/RP: 2 G, 2.2 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 4 K, 0 BB – Has now given up 7 ER in his last 5.2 IP, this is called regression to the mean.

Mark Melancon, RP: 2 G, 4 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 2 K, 0 BB

Edwar Ramirez, RP: 2 G, 3 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 3 K, 0 BB – Has a FIP of 2.92 over the last 28 days.

Jonathan Albaladejo, RP: 3 G, 3.1 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 4 K, 0 BB

Kevin Whelan, RP: 1 G, 1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 3 K, 1 BB

Michael Dunn, RP: 2 G, 4.1 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 4 K, 1 BB

AA Trenton

Austin Krum, OF: 25 AB, 3 H, 1 2B, 2 BB, 9 K, .120/.207/.160 – Now three for his last 40 in the past two weeks.

Matthew Cusick, 2B: 14 AB, 4 H, 1 2B, 1 BB, 3 K, .286/.375/.357

Eduardo Nunez, SS: 24 AB, 12 H, 6 2B, 4 BB, 0 K, .500/.571/.750 – Another strong week for Nunez. I like the four walks to zero strikeouts, but I’m still not sold at all on him.

Zach McAllister, SP: 2 GS, 7.2 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 1 HR, 4 K, 3 BB – One bad start and one good one, even though his innings are definitely limited at this point. He’s thrown 113.1 IP so far this season and has a career high of 88.2 in 2008.

Ryan Pope, SP: 1 GS, 5 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 4 K, 0 BB – First bad outing since Aug. 2.

Jeremy Bleich, SP: 2 GS, 8 IP, 13 H, 9 ER, 1 HR, 7 K, 2 BB – Has now given up 20 ER in his last 21.2 IP.

Lance Pendleton, SP: 2 GS, 9.1 IP, 10 H, 5 ER, 1 HR, 8 K, 5 BB – For a 25 year old, I would’ve liked to see him have some more immediate success in Trenton.

Humberto Sanchez, RP:  1 G, 2 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 3 K, 2 BB – Hasn’t given up an earned run since July 25th. That’s a span of 9 appearances.

A+ Tampa

Daniel Brewer, OF: 17 AB, 5 H, 2 2B, 1 BB, 5 K, .294/.368/.412

David Adams, 2B: 22 AB, 6 H, 3 2B, 2 HR, 1 BB, 3 K, .273/.333/.682 – Three of his five HRs on the season have came in the past two weeks.

Damon Sublett, 2B/CF: 20 AB, 5 H, 3 2B, 1 3B, 1 BB, 6 K, .250/.286/.500

Brandon Laird, 3B/DH: 21 AB, 6 H, 1 2B, 1 HR, 3 BB, 1 K, .286/.375/.476 – OPS of .954 in his last 28 days.

Austin Romine, C: 15 AB, 4 H, 1 HR, 2 BB, 2 K, .267/.389/.467 – OBP of only .319 on the season.

David Phelps, SP: 1 GS, 5 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 HR, 4 K, 1 BB

D.J. Mitchell, SP: 2 GS, 9.1 IP, 8 H, 2 ER, 6 K, 7 BB – Walked six batters in his most recent start. Before that he had only walked four once in 18 starts.

Garrison Lassiter, 3B: 24 AB, 7 H, 2 2B, 2 BB, 7 K, .292/.346/.375

Andrew Brackman, SP/RP: 2 G, 4 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 4 K, 0 BB – This is definitely the first week he has went without giving up a walk in a long time. He also got his second win of the season.

Manny Banuelos, SP/RP: 2 G, 4 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 8 K, 1 BB – He and Brackman are on a schedule where they throw two innings, get three days of rest, and then throw two innings again.

Jairo Heredia, SP: 2 GS, 7 IP, 15 H, 8 ER, 7 K, 2 BB – Gave up seven ER in two innings yesterday, but struck out four and didn’t walk a batter.

Rookie GCL

J.R. Murphy, C: 22 AB, 7 H, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 BB, 6 K – First home run of his professional career. He’s off to a nice start.

Kelvin DeLeon, OF: 21 AB, 3 H, 2 BB, 5 K, .143/.217/.143 – He’s gone cold after a quick start, with an awful 16:61 K:BB ratio.

Jose Ramirez, SP: 1 GS, 6 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 9 K, 0 BB – Has top notch stuff.

Caleb Cotham, SP: 1 GS, 2 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 5 K, 0 BB – He was facing hitters way below his level here.
