I honestly never thought Kevin Youkilis would ever wear pinstripes.

And yet, in 2013, there’s a possibility he could be donning them in the Bronx.

During the winter meetings on Wednesday, the New York Yankees met with Youkilis’ agent, Joe Bick, to discuss a potential deal.

On Thursday, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, the Bombers officially made an offer to the former Boston Red Sox infielder.

The Cleveland Indians are also in “hot pursuit” of the 34-year-old third baseman. They would likely use him at first base, according to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.

Youkilis made $12.25 million in 2012, so with the Yankees offering him that much money to take the place of Alex Rodriguez in wake of the news that A-Rod needs surgery on his hip, that one-year, $12 million offer could really entice Youkilis to make the jump to the Bronx.

Youkilis would be joining a class of guys like Johnny Damon, Roger Clemens and Wade Boggs, who were all former and important Red Sox players who went on to play for the Yankees in their careers.

In fact, all three eventually went on to win a World Series with the Bombers during their tenures in the Bronx.

Now all that matters is if Youkilis will accept the one-year deal, or if he and his agent are more interested in getting a multi-year deal in free agency.

Stay tuned, Yankees Universe.
