Michael Pineda: Yankees Pitcher Arrested for DUI in Florida

The New York Yankees‘ offseason acquisition of Michael Pineda just continues to get worse.

That’s because early Monday morning, the young fireballer, according to Dan Mangan of the New York Post, “was busted for DUI in Tampa, Fla., on a busy road early this morning after a cop spotted his speeding, “weaving” Nissan SUV driving without its headlights on.”

According to the report, the 23-year-old was charged and then released on $500 bond earlier this afternoon.

The Yankees, who gave up highly-regarded prospect Jesus Montero to the Seattle Mariners in order to acquire Pineda, can’t be happy with their supposed stud pitcher.

Not long after they traded for him, the Yankees saw Pineda go down with a shoulder injury, and he was eventually forced to undergo surgery, which will keep him out for the entire season.

That wasn’t necessarily Pineda’s fault. This incredibly stupid decision, however, was entirely his fault.

His Yankee career, which consists of zero starts, continues its incredibly rocky start with this unfortunate event.

But the problem behind this development goes much further than just the Yankees roster.

The need for professional athletes to continually drive under the influence is becoming an increasingly scary trend. This summer saw plenty of notable football and basketball players get busted, and now, Pineda is the newest culprit.

The only thing to do moving forward is to use these popular individuals as a teaching tool for what not to do.

Pineda should consider himself lucky to escape the night unscathed, and hopefully, we won’t have to hear about any more stories like this.
