Wednesday night, the New York Yankees continued their series in Cleveland against the Indians. Just one day after being shut down by Indians pitcher Josh Tomlin in his major league debut.

In the top of the first, Alex Rodriguez drove a single to center to score Mark Teixeira, getting the scoring started. Rodriguez is still chasing after the 600th home run of his career, which seems to be elusive for the Yankees third baseman. One night after weakly bouncing out to short to end the game as the tying runner, Rodriguez left five more Yankees on base.

The run scored in the first inning would prove to be enough, but the Yankees added more runs in the second, third, and fourth innings until finally letting up on the Indians pitching staff. Teixeira and Brett Gardner both chipped in with two RBIs a piece while Nick Swisher, Curtis Granderson, and Robinson Cano batted runs in as well.

Indians pitcher Fausto Carmona had been pitching well as of late with quality starts in eight of his last 10 appearances and giving up three or less runs in all but one of his last 10 outings. Tonight, the Yankees jumped on Carmona early and often. The Indians pitcher couldn’t make it out of the third after giving up seven earned runs.

AJ Burnett was given the lead before he even threw a pitch and he made sure that lead would last. Burnett pitched six and a third scoreless innings and struck out seven.

An optimistic sign, Joba Chamberlain pitched two-thirds of an inning without giving up a run before handing the ball to Sergio Mitre, who closed it out for the Bombers.

With the win, the Yankees remain two games ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East division race. The Rays managed to beat the injury-ridden Tigers, winning their fifth straight and keeping the division race tight.
