Curtis Granderson’s leadoff home run in the top of the tenth inning off of Jonathan Papelbon broke a 1-1 tie, as New York won their second straight with a 3-1 victory over Boston Wednesday night at Fenway Park.

New York took two out of three from Boston after losing the first eight meetings to the Red Sox last season. Chan Ho Park (1-1) pitched three scoreless innings for the win while Papelbon (0-1) suffered the loss.

Granderson greeted Papelbon in the tenth inning with a home run into the right field bleachers. It was his second home run in three games after hitting a round-tripper in his first Yankee at-bat on Sunday.

The Yankees added an insurance run later in the inning on an RBI ground out by Mark Teixeira. Mariano Rivera pitched a perfect bottom of the tenth for his second save.

Boston scored first in the bottom of the third. Dustin Pedroia led off with a double off of Yankees starter Andy Pettitte. With two outs, David Ortiz collected his first hit and RBI of the season with a single to right field.

However, over the next seven innings, Yankee pitchers held Boston scoreless on only three hits.

New York tied the game in the top of the seventh inning off reliever Scott Schoeneweis. With one out, Jorge Posada doubled to deep center. After Granderson struck out, Daniel Bard was summoned out of the bullpen. After quickly falling behind in the count, Nick Swisher singled to right to score Posada and tie the game.

Both starters pitched well but received no decisions. Pettitte limited Boston to one run on six hits in six innings, with three walks and four strikeouts. In his Red Sox debut, John Lackey blanketed the Yankees on only three hits over six innings. No starting pitcher for either team was involved in the decision in the three-game series.

New York will return to Florida when they open a three-game weekend series at Tampa Bay on Friday. First pitch for Friday’s game is set for 7:10 p.m.
