Chris Young Becomes 2nd Player to Homer for Mets and Yankees in Same Season

New York Yankees outfielder Chris Young hit his ninth home run of the season on Wednesday evening, becoming only the second player to hit a home run for both the Yankees and the New York Mets in the same season. Young matched the feat first accomplished almost four decades ago by Dave Kingman in 1977, per ESPN Stats & Info.
Young started the 2014 season with the Mets after signing a one-year deal with them in the offseason for a reported $7.25 million. He played in 88 games for the ‘Amazins, hitting a lowly .205 with an equally miserable .283 on-base percentage and .346 slugging percentage.
The Mets released Young in late August, and he was subsequently signed to a minor league contract by the Yankees on Aug. 27. Young spent his first few days as a Yankee down on the farm, until being brought up with the September call-ups on the first.
Like Young, Kingman started his 1977 season with the Mets, though Kingman had two additional stops prior to the Bronx that season. Playing in only 58 games with the Mets and having eerily similar numbers (.209/.263/.370) to Young, Kingman was traded to the San Diego Padres in mid-June of that year.
The Padres placed Kingman on waivers in late-August after he appeared in 56 games with them. He was claimed by the California Angels in early September. Kingman finally made it to the Bronx on Sept. 17 after playing in only 10 games for the Angels.
Kingman hit 26 homers in 1977 for four different teams—nine as a Met, 11 with the Padres, two in Anaheim and four more with the Yankees. He also had a trio of two-homer games that season, accomplishing that feat with three of the four teams—one time each for the Mets, Padres and Angels.
