The New York Yankees are starting to run into some issues.

Entering Sunday, the Yankees had the major leagues best record since May 7, going 24-16. The past week has been difficult, losing two out of three to the Washington Nationals at home, then dropping two of three to the Marlins in South Florida.

On a day when their ace C.C. Sabathia left the game in the second inning with soreness in his arm, Joe Girardi also told the media that superstar third baseman Alex Rodriguez will be taking one day off every week until the All-Star break.

“We’re going to have to give him some time, pick a couple days between now and the All-Star break, then see where we are after the All-Star break,” said Girardi.

After returning to the Yankees on May 8, Rodriguez started 38 games in a row following hip surgery. A-Rod had amassed just a .213 avg, with nine home runs and 28 RBI (40 games).

A-Rod ended an 0-16 slump with a single against the Marlins on Sunday afternoon and is hitting .153 in the month of June.

He is a career .304 hitter, and his 562 career home runs leave him just one shy of tying the great Reggie Jackson for 11th on the all-time list.
